MariMed's Gullickson Lobbying for Fair Cannabis Business Taxation, Banking on Capitol Hill With WomenGrow, NCIA

DispensaryPermits Launches 28 Days of Patient Awareness

PHOENIX, AZ and WASHINGTON, DC and BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/12/15 -- Sara Gullickson, Executive Director of DispensaryPermits.com division of MariMed Advisors, a subsidiary of Worlds Online (OTCQB: WORX), will be meeting with dozens of lawmakers on Capitol Hill, February 12 & 13 to advocate for fair taxation and equal banking access for medical cannabis businesses to help ensure a healthy business client for entrepreneurship and diversity. Gullickson, who is also co-chair of Women Grow-Phoenix Chapter, is joining the lobbying effort with more than 60 delegates from The National Cannabis Industry Association and Women Grow, the national network of female cannabis industry entrepreneurs.

Twenty-three states have legalized medical cannabis and recently US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy stated to CBS News: "We have some preliminary data showing that for certain medical conditions and symptoms that marijuana can be helpful," yet state-legal cannabis businesses are unfairly burdened by federal tax code amendment 280E, which denies tax exemptions and credits to business "trafficking" in a federally controlled substance, since the federal government still includes all cannabis on Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, the most tightly restricted category reserved for drugs which have "no currently accepted medical use." Additionally, because U.S. banks are under federal regulation, almost all refuse banking and financial services, such as loans, to cannabis businesses.

"We are urging legislators to remove these handicaps that make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for cannabis business entrepreneurs to bring needed medical cannabis treatments to patients in states where it is already legal," noted Gullickson. "Working as a united coalition, we hope to educate our elected federal representatives so they will end the unfair business conditions affecting legal cannabis entrepreneurs."

To raise awareness and focus on medical cannabis and healthy marijuana use, DispensaryPermits has launched the "28 Days to Patient Awareness" campaign via Twitter and email February 1-28. Those who sign up on the DispensaryPermits.com website or follow @DispensaryPrmts on Twitter (hashtag #MMJawareness) will receive daily emails or tweets.
